Words have meaning

Sometimes it is not readily apparent

ADAM’S LIST – Segment of the show in which Adam refers to a list of topics he wants to be sure have been covered. It’s a list. Made by Adam. This one is kind of self explanatory, actually.

ARISTOCRAT OF TENDERNESS, THE – A 12-oz filet mignon available at the Golden Steer Steakhouse in Las Vegas.

ARMS CROSSED SERIOUS FACE – The correct way to pose for a photo.

AUXILLARY POD WORLD HEADQUARTERS – The podcast studio at the Kenan Football Center. Utilized for interviews with representatives of Carolina Football. Sometimes Adam sounds like a chipmunk there.

BAKER’S BOATLOAD – 54.

BIG GRITS – Official Pod nickname of Eric Montross; so dubbed by Katrina.

BOATLOAD – 53.

BRIANNA – An idiot, according to her brother.

CONDESCENDING LIBRARIAN – Pete Chilcutt’s courtside persona, as evidenced here.

COOK OUT – Customary postgame fan meal; home of The Pod Shake (double chocolate Oreo); former sponsor of Pod World Headquarters.

EL PASO – A city in Texas (or Mexico, depending on which episode of The Pod you are listening to). Home of the bowl formerly known as the Hyundai Sun Bowl, and now known as the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. Really, really rocks. (See episodes 21 and 26, at a minimum)

ERIN MATSON – The world’s first PRNA. Our very best friend. Adam isn’t suggesting you buy her merch; he is merely letting you know it exists.

FIONA CRAWLEY – The world’s second PRNA; a champion in so many ways.

FIRST DOWN LASERS – The logical way to determine if a football has reached the appropriate distance for a new set of downs. (See episode 13)

FRIDAY – Classic song performed by former Pod guest Rebecca Black. It is used to kick off episodes that are released on Fridays.

G COLLEGE – The name many think Jones has given himself due to his routine pre-commercial-break phrasing (“from Learfield IMG College”).

GOLD FEED, THE – Fictional(?) video broadcast of the pod available only to the most loyal of listeners (viewers?). Update: It’s real, folks.

HOW CAN YOU JUSTIFY THAT (HCYJT)? – Popular segment of The Pod featuring rage-inducing events that have no justification.

I DON’T EVEN WANT THIS – How Dick Vitale feels about salads. Traditionally used to describe something you DO want that has been ruined by a particular aspect which you DON’T desire. (A better explanation can be found here.)

JOHN MONTGOMERY’S OFFICE – The largest of offices; inhabited by the Executive Director of the Ram’s Club.

KATRINA – Waitress at the Blue Plate Cafe in Memphis; coined the phrase “see ya later Big Grits.”

LIL GERB / MR PICKLE – Nicknames for Garrison Brooks.

LIME SKITTLES – Tragically discontinued flavor of the classic candy. It was replaced by green apple, which zero humans enjoy. (See episode 23) Update: IT’S BACK.

LITTLE SEBASTIAN LIST – A short version of Adam’s List.

LOW POWER MODE – Phone battery maximization strategy. (See episode 14)

MR GOOSEHONKERS – Official pod harbinger of story time; actual title of the song used as the background for said segment.

POD, THE – The Carolina Insider Podcast. (See episode 10)

POD AFTER DARK – A pod episode recorded in the evening, generally after the conclusion of a sporting event.

POD SHAKE – A double chocolate Oreo shake procured at one of many fine Cook Out establishments.

POD WORLD HEADQUARTERS (PWH) – The palatial studio where the Pod is recorded. Located within the Woody Durham Media and Communications Center.

PRNA – A person who has won a Poddy, a RAMMY, and a national championship, AND been named an all-American. Only two people have managed this nearly impossible achievement. (See Erin Matson, Fiona Crawley)

ROAD HOUSE CHALLENGE – Segment of the show in which Jones and Adam each watch a movie (generally from the 80s) and then rate it on a scale of 1 to 5 Road Houses (the original movie featured).

RZA – Robert Fitzgerald Diggs. American musician. Artist behind “Grits,” the sign off music for each episode of The Pod.

SAD FRIDAY – An acoustic, less cheerful version of “Friday” used occasionally on Fridays following a loss.

SEBASTIAN THE IBIS – Mascot for the University of Miami; makes a better door than a window; Jones’ nemesis.

SEE YA LATER BIG GRITS (SYLBG) – A phrase shouted at Eric Montross by Katrina as he left the Blue Plate Cafe in Memphis, which quickly morphed into the customary sign off of each episode of The Pod.

SO CLASSY – Indication that an act or person is respectful, considerate, and well mannered.

STARBURST – A candy, not a lozenge. (See episode 279)

STEVE – J. Adam Lucas, so dubbed by actress Nicci Carr. (See 4/9/21 episode)

STORY TIME – Pod segment devoted to reading Carolina-related stories submitted by listeners.

THURSDAY – A day when it is appropriate to throw, throw, throw the ball.

TRAFFIC CIRCLES – Road junctions at which traffic moves in one direction around a central island to reach one of the roads converging on them; Adam’s nemesis.

VACATION FROM LIFE – A story or bit of information that provides a refreshing bit of respite from an otherwise cruel world.

WHAT A BONANZA – A truly spectacular catchphrase coined by legendary play-by-play announcer Joe Starkey.

WHAT UP – A tip o’the cap; acknowledgment of an accomplishment or assistance rendered.

WORKING FOR THE BUBBLE – A phrase introduced to the Pod by Larry Gallo indicating a job done for free. Kind of like this website.
